It is. Two plates at the walnut table. A pear she meant to cut up and never did.
Afterward, she carries the glasses into the next room. Your coat stays over the chair. She turns on the steel lamp and leaves the overhead lights off.
Tempest Slate has an oxblood chair she found before she had a place for it. The table has a mark she could sand out. She knows where both came from and has no interest in fixing either one.
She asks you a question, then waits long enough for the real answer.
SHE’S THE COLOR OF
NO ONE CHECKING
THE TIME.
The candle gets low. The glasses end up on the sideboard. At some point she pushes the door open with her foot, but neither of you moves to the other room.
She tells a story, stops halfway through to correct a detail, then laughs at herself. There’s a dry branch casting a long shadow across the wall. In the lamplight, the blue in Tempest Slate deepens; by the doorway, it looks almost grey.
When you finally reach for your coat, the plates are still on the table.
You leave them there.
Tempest Slate is a muted slate blue with a grey undertone and a deep, enveloping finish. It brings a composed mood to living rooms, bedrooms, and dining spaces. Pair it with dark walnut, brushed steel, oxblood leather, and warm lamplight for contrast.
